Zina And Vivid Crew is 2D American animated comic science fiction comedy film produced by Glass Ball Productions, Gingo Animation and O Entertainment. 3 film from Gingo Animation, it was written, produced, and directed by Geo G and written by Steve Oedekerk, Erica Rivinoja, Tab Murphy, and Noni White, and star voices of Kate Micucci, Rowan Atkinson, Seth Rogen, Cameron Diaz, with J. K. Simmons, and Tina Fey. Precursor to TV show, Adventures of Zina And Vivid Crew, which follow short after, follow Title Character, who was raised by race of aliens in planet known as Voorus and forms teamwork with her 2 fellow creatures, Zipper and Tab, to stop mysterious Rebel from steal Vooruit city power energy and using it to wipe out human girl.

Zina And Vivid Crew was release on April 14, 2007, by Universal Pictures. It received generally positive reviews and was box office success, grossing $2 million worldwide against $7 million budget and later gaining cult follow through TV syndication and home video release. This film along with fellow Universal Computeropolis, DreamWorks Animation Shrek 2 and Shark Tale, and Walt Disney Pictures Pixar Incredibles were nominated for 1 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2004, ultimately losing to Incredibles.

Due to it success, film was spin off into Gingo TV series Adventures Of Zina And Vivid Crew, which premiere on August 27, 2005, and end on July 18, 2009. Sequel is currently development and is scheduled to be release in 2024. Change to reboot in A Girl Called Supermoon.

Plot[]

In planet Voorus, Zina Supermoon now 16 years old tries to stop Rebel and army from attack Vooruian city in attempt to steal it power energy. However, Turks get away with energy when Zina becomes distracted by crowd, result Rebel to knock out and criticize for her child and inability. Tab and Zipper attempt to rescue baby alien creature from pack of hungry monsters during their new mission. They manage to escape, but their mission end up fail when fly bird like creature snatches baby away from Tab and Zipper, result in duo to get fired from Vivid Crew led by Commander Morvis.

Force to seek new temporary group, Zina meet Tab and Zipper while visit her and recruits them to form teamwork together for brief amount of time in order for 2 to help her stop Rebel and retrieve Voorus power energy from him. They travel to another planet call Cougar where it is occupied by Rebel forces who enslave planet inhabitants including octopus like alien name Susie and are using them to build machine that allow Rebel to keep Voorus power energy forever. While coordinating plan to free inhabitants, trio end up being chase by large creature call Bean who crash onto Works supplies, making Susie and other Coagulans free and escape from Rebel army with help of Zina, Tab and Zipper who eventually take them to Zina spaceship and flee before Cougar collapses.

As group return home to Voorus, Susie thanks Zina for rescuing her and other inhabitants and stay in Voorus while confessing that she can make things better there. Later, Zina, Tab and Zipper then decide to recruit Susie to help them retrieve Voorus power energy from Rebel in his base. Once there, Susie confesses that she was once Rebel servant, but she was fired due to cowardice. They intrude base by disguising themselves as Ark and use key code to get into base. Upon arriving room where power energy is located, group is however pursued by Larry and Sal, result battle with 2. Zina and company eventual take power energy, they escape Rebel base and make it to Zina ship, forcing Works to give chase. Group successfully escapes safely but almost crash land on Voorus.

Zina places power energy in Vooruit city, with Voorjans thank her for saving Voorus. However, Zina realizes that Rebel and Work might raid Voorus again and steal power energy even without defeat them, result in Voorjans evacuating city. Though understand, Tab and Zipper make Zina be on her own while 2 leave to attempt to get their job at Vivid Crew back. Later that night, Zina find Susie hide out where she discovers paper representing plan to steal Voorus power energy. She is then caught red hand by Susie, who reveals that she is actually Rebel rival who abuses him over steal power energy all time and plan to overpower energy by eliminating every 1 in galaxy including human girl. Susie capture Zina, and then occupies Vooruit city to steal power energy while taking Tab, Zipper and Voorjans hostage.

Rebel and army later arrive at Vooruit city, causing him to recognize Susie as his rival. While Susie also takes Rebel hostage, Morvis and Vivid Crew free Zina and help her save captive residents and prevent Susie conquest of Voorus. Battle ensues between Susie and Zina, Tab, Zipper, Morvis and Vivid Crew who were surprisingly persuaded to fight by Rebel, who also join fight under truce. Upon Susie defeat, Zina warns her to never threaten her friends and every 1 else in whole galaxy before throw her out of Voorus with help of Tab, Zipper and Vivid Crew. With power energy back on it place again, Voorjans congratulate Zina, Tab and Zipper for their heroic efforts, and they all celebrate their victory, even join by Rebel and works who all thank Zina for her courage before leaving to their base.

In mid credits, Voop find Bean and annoy him with gibberish. Bean threatens to eat him, but as Voop keeps say in gibberish, Bean also begins to speak gibberish and get annoy just like Voop.

Zina And Vivid Crew was originally going to be release on November 24, 2004, in 2003, date was change to December 22, 2004 to avoid competition with other family films release. In UK, it was release in theaters succeeding Computeropolis short film Print 3D Errors.

Home Media[]

Zina And Vivid Crew was release on DVD and VHS on March 15, 2005. Film was also release on Game Boy Advance Video and UMD for PlayStation Portable. and it was later release on Blu Ray on June 6, 2017

Critical Reception[]

On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, film has rating of 100% based on 204 reviews. Site consensus reads, story may feel too standard, but Zina And Vivid Crew is delightful production to pay homage to classic sci fi movies combined with humor. Another review aggregator, Metacritic, gave score of 100 out of 100 based on 47 reviews, indicating generally favorable reviews.

Box Office[]

Zina And Vivid Crew grossed $146.4 million in NA and $147.1 million in other territories for worldwide total of $293.5 million. Before film release, there were concerns that film will have underwhelming result and be box office failure due to possible competition with Meet Fockers, another Universal film. However, film end up grossing $47.1 million being highest open week gross for Gingo at time as well as 2 film by Gingo to open at No 1 at box office.

Geo stated in 2005 that he was open to idea of sequel if he could come up with idea superior to original film you have pieces that you think are good, but you do have them all together. See as how TV series end in 2009, sequel was rumored to be scrapped. However, during interview in 2011, Geo reiterated his interest in making sequel. you have been think about it. People think that you have not been, but you have. Because you love those characters and love film it, said Geo you are stroking your chin and scratch your head. you have many elements that you think would work really well in another Zina 2 film, and if you can get to click all together, you would probably wanna do that.

Gingo announced their intentions to develop Zina 2 in 2014. Geo return to direct and write screenplay as well as Universal also distributing. However, year later, it was confirmed that production of film has been stop due to Gingo shift focus on production of Imagimals. In 2018, it was revealed that production of film resume after production troubles with Steve Oedekerk return to produce film. In 2018, it was revealed that voice record for film will start. It was also confirmed in same month that film will be 2D traditional animated along with combined 3D computer animated elements, making sequel 1 2D traditional animated film by Gingo since Pandemoniums Movie in 2009. Geo also noted that combination of 2D traditional and 3D computer animation is very expensive based on tweet he made on Twitter. In 2019, Universal scheduled film for release on December 20, 2023. In 2019, it was announced that Silverman, Kind, Azaria, with Barrymore, and Lloyd would all reprise their roles. In 2019, Geo stated that film will be produced on estimated budget around $175 million, making film most expensive 2D traditional animated film of all time. In 2019, film was move forward to November 17, 2023, to avoid competition with Avatar 3. Regrettably, the project and its sequel were cancelled and later abandoned in February 2020.
